Do you want to hear a miraculous story? A year ago a church approached Project Partner about offering a soccer camp in a foreign country where the sport would draw students who want to improve their "football" skills. That would be an opportunity for building relationships, sharing cultural exchanges and offering good news. Our partners were excited and went after this BIG time. Their efforts were successful beyond our imagination.
Then the unthinkable happened. The church backed out at the very last moment when our partners were ready to pull the trigger on contracts and executing invites. We literally had 24 hours to rebuild a team or call it off. We were now only months from the camp. When I heard about it there was one name that came to my mind immediately, Bubba Gaeddert. I knew Bubba ran camps for the YMCA in Olathe. What I didn't know was if he could take off two weeks in the middle of the summer.
Are you ready for this? The week before, Bubba left a service at Indian Creek where he'd heard the story of Project Partner, and told his wife Jenna, I think I'm supposed to go with Project Partner. He felt God was calling him! The next week I called and said, I need to know in a day if you could go to the country not mentioned. He checked his schedule and those were the only two weeks where he could go. Jenna encouraged him to go and Bubba said YES!
Now he needed to raise $3,000 (and so do I). We've both been out to raise the money and we both are encouraged by where we are (Bubba needs $700 more, I need $1,600). Here is where the story takes another twist.
The sign-ups went so good for our partners (they doubled the attendees from 75-150) that they sent out an SOS last week telling us they needed another 3-4 leaders. By now we were 5 weeks away. Who goes halfway around the world on a week's notice? It takes 3-4 weeks to get a Passport if you don't have one and 2-3 weeks to get a VISA at best!
We put out the word and started recruiting. Amazingly, we found one at Indian Creek, our summer intern, Kyle Mullins, who played at Olathe East. We found a strong female player in Jaclyn Hollmer from CA and Kristen Levitt, the Director of Project Partner who played club soccer in Junior High committed to go. We have one more guy we are recruiting but as of this writing we aren't sure if he can go. BUT we nearly there! If we had to go with this number we could.
Can you believe it? We were at the go or no go two times and both times we got up off the deck and back in the fight! Wow! I believe God must have great plans for us to plant eternal seeds! Will you praise God with us and pray for the trip, July 16-28? I'm thanking you ahead of time.
Will you help us get there and complete the miracle by giving a financial gift? Here is a link where you can join the adventure. Be a part of this story!
